Stuttering Therapy

Additional Information

For school aged children and adults who stutter I am aware of the strong evidence that indicates that many people who stutter expend a great deal of energy and effort into avoiding stuttering moments, and that the associated cognitive demands and physical muscle tension of avoidance have a large role in maintaining the problems with stuttering.

Therapy involves a multifaceted approach of supporting my clients to unlearn avoidance behaviours and explore methods that support stuttering well, with ease. I have had the pleasure of completing training in Avoidance Reduction Therapy for Stuttering (ARTS) with speech pathologist Vivian Sisskin.

If you are a young person who stutters - you are not alone! Want to meet others who stutter? Check out this amazing group:  SAY Australia Home - SAY: Australia

For children younger than 7 years of age I discuss with parents how to reduce demands on communication to support increasing capacity. For some families we look at the Palin Parent-Child Interaction Therapy Approach. This approach places the child at the centre, and supports the 4 domains that impact their communication confidence: physiological, speech and language, psychological and environmental.
