Some children and adolescence have challenges that are not recognised by NDIS, yet the path of their life can be changed by weekly or fortnightly therapy or access to a communication device. Examples of this are children and adolescence who stutter, those with literacy learning challenges, those with food worries due to allergies or other medical conditions, and those with Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS).
The Kid in Need Association (KIN) are a local charity for families on the Gold Coast and Northern NSW. They support children and adolescence to access therapy, who could otherwise not.
KIN have generously supported an adolescent to work with me to access stuttering therapy (Avoidance Reduction Therapy for Stuttering). This generosity had resulted in a positive future path ahead.
In the past KIN funded a communication device for a child with CAS who was about to commence school when no one could understand what he was saying. This was immensely frustrating for him and greatly impacted his communication confidence so that he was withdrawing. Once KIN purchased his device, he started school with so much more confidence and capacity to contribute and access the school curriculum.
